I hate to say it, but I think that he would have been done by 1977, at the latest, at least as far as the pop scene was concerned. He was a great musician and lyricist, but I think that his sound and the type of music he played back then was of a certain time and place, and wouldn't have carried him through the rest of the '70s.

I think his career would have paralleled Gordon Lightfoot's, a similar early-70s folk-rock troubadour. Lightfoot was huge back then too, but his last major US pop chart appearance was in 1978. He then switched over to country (a move I DEFINITELY can envision Croce making) before hitting the oldies circuit. Shoot - if things had gone differently, Croce and Lightfoot might have been touring together nowadays!

Thanks for commenting, Ric.HFMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07020353895605709934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4559050863064711508.post-62899801350274426332011-11-16T17:32:24.141-05:002011-11-16T17:32:24.141-05:00Thanks for including me. What a poet and musician.
RicFaustEffectshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08315251477155663553noreply@blogger.com
