Stumbled across this one a couple of years ago, in my ongoing search for anything and everything related to The Clash. It's a compendium of Clash tunes reworked by several bands in the rockabilly/psychobilly style. Here's the lineup of songs and artists:
- Guns of Brixton - The Honeydippers
- Career Opportunities - Farrell Bros.
- Capitol Radio - The Hyperjax
- Jail Guitar Doors - The Caravans
- Train In Vain - The Sabrejets
- Should I Stay Or Should I Go? - Long Tall Texans
- I'm So Bored With The U.S.A. - XX Cortez
- Jimmy Jazz - Frantic Flintstones
- What's My Name? - The Charles Napiers
- Bank Robber - The Pistoleers
- Brand New Cadillac - The Accelerators
- Janie Jones - Farrell Bros.
- Know Your Rights - The Caravans
- Guns Of Brixton - Rancho Deluxe
Some tunes here work better than others... but all in all, this is a great group of songs providing an interesting, different take on some familiar music from Strummer, Jones & Co., in a style with which the original band was not unfamiliar with.
No long-winded story from me regarding this one... Posting this for no reason whatsoever, other than I like it, and thought that some of you might like it as well. Here's the compilation This Is Rockabilly Clash, released on Raucous Records in the UK on July 11th, 2003. Enjoy, and let me know what you think about it as well.
A somewhat interesting Clash covers comp here. Some of it work, while others don't. Rockabilly is a strange one, & this is just short of 20 years old now. Check it out, it has it's charm. ICKY
ReplyDeleteAntici....pation. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBada-bing - already sent your way!
DeleteTo be honest I didn't really know what to expect here. I'm flabbergasted at how combining rockabilly with punk really works here. I really liked the Guns of Brixton (Honeydrippers and Rancho Deluxe) and the Janie Jones versions. Thanx bunches!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you’ve gotta remember Strummer’s roots with The 101’ers and the whole ‘pub rock’ scene of the early/mid-70s - that sound wasn’t that far removed from rockabilly, whose roots go back to the Fifties. So there were already some elements of Clash songs that lent themselves to be more fully adapted by this sound.
DeleteThanks for the great comment!
Q: Are The Honeydrippers the same band that backed Robert Plant back in the 80's?
ReplyDeleteđ No - different band!
Deletehi can i have a link please
ReplyDeleteSure - can I have an email address please?
DeleteHi guy, when the post?

DeleteGrammatically, the sentence above makes no sense…
So overall, I find this album fun, but it is definitely kind of hit or miss on the rockabilly sound. But I really do appreciate the link!!!!!

this sounds just like the clash version, pretty much. Not much rockabilly to it IMHO
07- I’m so bored with the usa-xx cortez.

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteAgree with others some tracks work real well. Showing the class that were the Clash. Had hoped for a more authentic Rockabilly sound. but will go back and re-listen to fine compilation. Thanks for this.
